EXAMPLE ITINERARY: Friday Make your own way to the base camp at Blyde Adventure Camp on the banks of the Lower Blyde River (near Swadini Forever Resort / Hoedpruit area / Limpopo). Settle in, relax or enjoy the afternoon on the class 1-2 river running through the property, river swim / tubing & zip lining (foefie slide) into the river. The first meal provided will be scrumptious dinner braai in camp, under the bushveld stars. Saturday Rise & shine for an early breakfast, ready by 07:30 to take the 1,5 hours trip (depending on road conditions) by truck into the canyon, past Mariepskop (the highest point in the Northern Drakensberg) to the "put in" point where we unpack, gear up and listen to the lead guides safety briefing. All clients get a helmet, lifejacket & paddle, two man inflatable “croc” raft. The qualified and experienced river guides will take us down the river rapids in stages. We stop for a tea break with snacks in the morning, lunch in the middle of the day and a last tea break in the afternoon before reaching our over night bush camp called Wet Camel, directly at the foot of the Three Rondawels on the banks of the Blydepoort dam. Here we sleep in basic A-frame huts, shower underneath the stars and enjoy a traditional braai for dinner. Sunday The following morning starts with a swim in the river, followed by a full breakfast cooked on the fire. "Take out" point is on the Blyde Dam at the inflow of the Blyde River where our ferry will fetch us, ending the stunning trip with a leisurely boat cruise over the Blyde Dam past a rare Kadishi Tufa waterfall and the famous Three Rondawels. Once back on dry land we pack up all the gear and transport the clients back to base camp, 9km's away.
Safety: You will be in good hands as our hosting adventure operators use some of the best guides in the industry, the new ops manager/ trip leader was part of the original crew that explored the Upper Blyde River for commercial use. All guides have been trained and accredited with the relevant institutions and we have 24hour medical emergency standby from our partners at Africa Safe-T.
